Midwestern State advances to LSC Championship Game
EDMOND, Okla. - Freshman forward Sabrina Periman of Granbury scored an overtime goal to lead the third-seeded Midwestern State University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over second-seeded West Texas A&M Friday afternoon in the Lone Star Conference Tournament at Tom Thompson Field.
MSU (9-8-2) chalked up the win thanks to Periman's goal at the 93:30 mark to end the game in the first overtime period against WTAMU (10-6-1).
Senior keeper Elli O'Dwyer of Dallas/Lake Highlands was phenomenal in goal, recording 10 saves on 17 WT shots to notch her fourth shutout of the season.
WT keeper Sarah Anderson notched three saves against eight shots before allowing the winning goal in overtime.
In the overtime, Melissa Brown fed Periman who beat Anderson to an open ball.
With the victory, MSU advances to the Lone Star Conference championship game for the first time since 1999. The Lady Indians will face tournament host and top seed Central Oklahoma who beat Texas Woman's 4-0 in the other semifinal. The championship game is Sunday at 1 p.m.
