Students bring home awards from Southwestern Journalism Congress

Students in the Midwestern State University Mass Communication Department won nine awards at the annual Southwestern Journalism Congress competition, held last weekend in Waco, Texas.

 

MSU's weekly newscast, "Campus Watch," placed first in the television newscast category and won four individual awards. Students in the department's documentary production class and from the weekly newspaper "The Wichitan," won additional awards.

 

Students earning first place awards included: Ri'Chaele Affannato, Television Non-Feature Story; Amy Augspurger, Camron Rushin and Ashley Tippit, Television Program; Jason Calder, Jennifer Tavlian and Jessica Weiss, Television Videography/Editing; Paige Dickerson, Newspaper Editorial; and Trey Reed, Television Spot Commercial, PSA, or Promotional Announcement.

 

Students earning second place awards included: Priscilla Porras, Television Feature

Story; and Ashley Tippit and Priscilla Porras, Television Non-Feature Story.

 

Students earning third place awards included: Jason Calder, Jennifer Tavlian and Jessica Weiss, Television Program.

 

The SWJC is an association of collegiate journalism and mass communication programs in a four-state area.
