MSU men shutout St. Mary's 2-0
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State University men's soccer team scored twice in the first 15 minutes and held on for a 2-0 Southwest Soccer Conference victory against St. Mary's University.
MSU (9-3-1, 7-1-1) got the lead when junior Brandon Swartzendruber got the ball from freshman Mark McGlinchy in a scrum and shot it past Rattler goal keeper Steven Michael just four minutes into the game.
The Indians struck again in 10 minutes later when Swartzendruber fed senior Jimmy Krueger on a breakaway. Kruger walked in and rifled the ball past Michael to put MSU up 2-0.
MSU had other chances, but between Michael's seven saves and a pair of outstanding team saves by defensemen, St. Mary's kept the Indians off the board.
Sophomore goal keeper Sean Gill tallied five saves against nine shots by St. Mary's to run his record to 7-1-0 and notch his second shutout of the season.
MSU now prepares for a showdown contest against No. 23 Incarnate Word. The match on Sunday starts at 3 p.m. at the MSU Soccer Field.
