MSU beats Texas A&M-Commerce 3-2

            WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State University won the second contest of a four-match home stand as the Lady Indians defeated Texas A&M University-Commerce 3-2 in Lone Star Conference North volleyball action Thursday night.

            MSU (23-10, 4-5) had to come from behind to win it, 28-30, 30-25, 26-30, 31-29, 16-14.

            Midwestern trailed in deciding game five 12-8, when junior Candice Main collected a huge block, one of her nine in the contest, to pull MSU back to within three points.

            The teams exchanged points when a hitting error by A&M-C's Colleen Favaro started a three point swing for MSU to tie the game at 13-all.

            A blocking error by Main gave A&M-C a 14-13 lead and serve at match point, but Main retied the game at 14-all with a free ball kill.  With Main serving, MSU scored on a kill by Kate Pence and an attack error by A&M-C's Reagan Jesse for the win.

            Freshman Shay Velasquez led the way for MSU, collecting 16 kills and hitting .333 for the contest.  Main also had 16 kills, with sophomore Rachel Gilmore adding 14 and sophomore Krissa Johnson chipping in 11.

            Main led the MSU blocking attack with nine total blocks, while Gilmore added six and Johnson four.  Freshman setter Allison Schreiber posted 57 assists.

            A&M-Commerce got 20 kills from Jane Latu who hit .357, with 19 kills and four blocks from Colleen Favaro and 13 kills and four blocks from Brittany Williams.

            Midwestern State continues the home stand on Saturday afternoon with a 2 p.m. contest against Southeastern Oklahoma at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
