MSU beats Cameron 3-1, sweeps season series
LAWTON, Okla. - The Midwestern State University volleyball team posted its first season sweep of Cameron University since 1990 with a 30-28, 27-30, 30-26, 30-22 victory Thursday night at Aggie Gym.
MSU, now 21-9 overall, 3-4 in Lone Star Conference North play, picked up it's first road win within the division.
Cameron fell to 12-12 overall, 2-5 in LSC North action in the first game as interim coach for Aggie coaching legend Kim Vinson who returned to the bench following the sudden resignation of TeAna Crutcher on Wednesday.
MSU was paced by the play of Shay Velasquez who hit .375 for the match and recorded a game-high 21 kills with 16 digs. Candice Main hit .394 for the match with 18 kills and four blocks, while Kate Pence notched 17 kills and hit .324.
Setter Allison Schreiber tallied 56 assists in the four games of the match, averaging 14 assists a game.
CU got 17 kills from Ashley Rikard, and 12 kills each from Alysha Pritt and twins Tyler and Taran Turner.
Midwestern State returns to the road on Saturday to meet LSC North leader Central Oklahoma in a 2 p.m. contest in Edmond, Okla.
