MSU avenges earlier loss to West Texas A&M 2-1

            CANYON, Texas -  Sophomore Scott Leonard scored in the 82nd minute to lead Midwestern State University to a 2-1 Southwest Soccer Conference victory over West Texas A&M Sunday afternoon at Kimbrough Stadium.

            Midwestern (8-3-1, 6-1-1) avenged an earlier loss to WT (9-5-0, 8-1) with the win.

            MSU played with a man advantage through most of the contest, after the Buffaloes lost freshman Tim Nutter to a red card in the in the 37th minute.

            MSU got on the board first in the 44th minute when senior midfielder Chad Rakestraw headed in freshman Mark McGlinchey's corner kick for the lead.

            In the second half, WT tied the game when Kenneth Christensen buried a one-timer from 20-yards out in the 58th minute.

            After having an apparent goal nullified by an offside call, MSU took the lead for good when Rakestraw fed Leonard on the right side, and Leonard blasted a 25-yard shot by Buff goal keeper Shawn Carr.

            MSU freshman goal keeper Raul Herrera tallied seven saves on the day, and Carr equaled that total.  MSU out shot WT 14-13.

            Midwestern State is off until Friday, when the men take on St. Mary's about 7:30 p.m., following the MSU women's game with East Central that starts at 5 p.m.
