Incarnate Word downs MSU Women 1-0
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of the Incarnate Word scored a goal in the 65th minute of play Sunday afternoon and held on to beat the Midwestern State University women's team 1-0 in non-conference action on the UIW campus.
Laura Cannon knocked in the goal for UIW (11-3-2) after getting passes from Shamsi Arian-Nejad and Barbara Butts for the only score of the game at 64:12.
The tough UIW defense held Midwestern State (7-7-1) to just five shots, with Lady Cardinal keeper Amy Menegaz posting just one save.
UIW tallied 17 shots against MSU keeper Elli O'Dwyer who recorded four saves with the goal allowed.
The MSU women return to Lone Star Conference action next Friday afternoon when they visit Edmond, Okla., to meet LSC leader Central Oklahoma in a 4 p.m. match.
