Velasquez named LSC North Offensive Player of the Week

            WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State University freshman Shay Velasquez was named the Lone Star Conference North Division Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for her strong play for the Lady Indians over the last four games.

            Velasquez, a 5-9 freshman outside hitter from Amarillo/River Road, led MSU to a 3-1 mark last week, including MSU's first win over Cameron University in 15 years.

            Velasquez hit .325 for the week with 39 kills.  She also recorded 11 service aces and 41 digs on the week.  In MSU's three-game sweep of Cameron, she hit .433 with 17 kills, two aces and 14 digs.

            Velasquez is the third MSU player named a volleyball player of the week for the conference this season.  Candice Main has taken the offensive honors twice this season and Allison Schreiber was named the setter of the week once this season as well.

            MSU faces Dallas Baptist tonight in non-conference play, then travels to Southeastern Oklahoma State on Thursday and Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday in LSC North action.
