Director sets new course for museum
Museum Director Cohn Drennan met with the Midwestern State University Museum Advisory Board and museum employees on Wednesday to present his plan of action to develop the museum.
The name of the museum will be the Wichita Falls Museum of Art (WFMA) at Midwestern State University. The goal is to build a strong collection of art that will give the community a sense of pride and ownership of the museum. The current collection will be expanded to include works of art of all media by American artists. No other major museum in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado or Louisiana focuses their collecting on American art and artists. This will identify WFMA as a unique institution in the region.
Plans are to renovate the galleries in order to present four to six new exhibitions a year. Works from the current collection will be re-framed and exhibited to fill the museum. Educational programming for children and the community will be developed based on the collection, its heritage and culture.
A membership drive will be launched in the spring to raise funds for supplemental operational costs in order to eliminate admission fees to the museum.
An Opening in the spring will focus on a re-dedication of the museum and a re-discovery of the museum's collection.
