Summer camps a success

Summer camps a success

Each summer Midwestern State University opens its doors to students who attend a variety of summer camps on campus. This year more than 1,700 students have participated in 15 different camps.

Sports camps have the highest participation rate. Skills and sportsmanship are part of every athletic camp including football, volleyball, basketball, soccer and cycling.  Some camps teach kids as young as 6 years old and often include students up to 18 years of age.

More than 200 musicians were on campus for the week-long band camp offered in June. This annual camp brings students from a wide area around Wichita Falls, and concludes with a recital-type program at the end of the week.

Academic camps are also part of the summer mix. A chemistry camp was available for high school students. A Code Blue Camp was held for students who had completed the first, second or third grades and wanted to become experts about the human body in this math/science camp experience.

An Air Force Junior ROTC camp brought 200 young people from around the region to practice training skills for a week.

Most camps offer residential living for the week and give the students an opportunity to see what living at a college is all about.
