Dr. Elizabeth Magaly Rincón-Zachary was named Hardin Professor for 2004

Dr. Elizabeth Magaly Rincón-Zachary, associate professor and graduate coordinator of biology at Midwestern State University, was named Hardin Professor for 2004 during the MSU commencement Saturday morning.

Hardin Professor is the highest honor bestowed upon a faculty member at the university each year. The Hardin Foundation for Wichita County established the annual award in 1962 for a member of the MSU faculty whose teaching and research of the preceding 12 months has brought distinction to the faculty member and the institution.

The award carries with it a stipend of $3,500. Rincón-Zachary received her bachelor of science degree from Pedagogic of Caracas in Venezuela. She received her master of science degree and her doctorate from the University of Illinois at Urbana in Champaign. She began her teaching career in 1972 at Colegio Mater Dei in Venezuela. She served as a research assistant at the University of Illinois and a research associate at North Carolina State University before coming to Midwestern State University in 1992. Rincón-Zachary has published numerous articles and has made many presentations involving MSU undergraduate and graduate students. She has also directed 14 theses during her tenure at Midwestern State University. She has served on several university committees in recent years and currently serves on the Honors Program and Faculty Forum Committees.
