The Midwestern State University outstanding student awards were announced at the Stud

 

The awards are presented annually to recognize student leadership and academic excellence at MSU. The nominations were made by organizations or academic programs and were based on character, university service, leadership and outstanding scholarship. Robert Ladon Little and Ruth Sherrill Burns were named MSU Man and Woman of the Year. Little is a history major. He is a member of Alpha Chi, Mortar Board, Alpha Kappa Delta and the Association of Social and Behavioral Sciences. He serves as vice president for Circle K International and is a Student Government Association senator. In addition to working full-time, Little volunteers with the Special Olympics and the Association of Retarded Citizens. Burns is a music major. She is vice president of Chi Omega sorority and membership chairman of Mortar Board. She is a member of the University Singers, Order of Omega, Student Ambassadors, Panhellenic Council, Alpha Chi Honor Society, Association of Disciple Musicians, and the American Guild of Organists. Outstanding Graduate Man was Michael Robert Graham, a health care administration major. He is the CEO of Nocona General Hospital and co-chairperson of a task force comprised of the Leadership Development Council. Graham is a member of the Lion's Club and currently serves as chairman of Nocona's local Economic Development 4B Board. He also serves on the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospital (TORCH) Home Health Board of Directors and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Outstanding Graduate Woman was Elizabeth Perez Mendez. Her major is family nurse practitioner. She serves as secretary for Sigma Theta Tau, a board member and secretary to the Zavala Hispanic Initiative Organization, a committee member on the Advisory Council for Job Corp of Christian Women, and is on the advisory council for the Command Spanish Program. Outstanding Senior Man was Chad Randal Vickers, a nursing major. He is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau, Mortar Board, and the MSU Honors Program. He also serves as vice president of Alpha Chi and president of the Nursing Association. Outstanding Senior woman was Dawne Mason-Durrant, marketing major. She is a member of the MSU Honors Program, American Marketing Association, and Delta Mu Delta. She is a Student Ambassador and serves as treasurer of the Association of Social and Behavioral Science and secretary for Mortar Board and Alpha Chi honor societies. Outstanding Junior Man was Raul Mugabe Peters and Outstanding Junior Woman was Melissa Ken-Nea Yip. Outstanding Sophomore Man was Robbie Lee Graham and Outstanding Sophomore Woman was Angela Smith. Outstanding Freshman Man was Benjamin Seth Livingston and Outstanding Freshman Woman was Miranda Kaye Jentsch. The Greek Man of the Year was James William Morefield and the Greek Woman of the Year was Valarie Nicole McCubbins. The Alumni Award was presented to Adam Dan McMahen. Omega Delta Phi won the James L. Stewart Service Award and Melissa Ken-Nea Yip won the Viola Grady Leadership Scholarship. -30- 4/16/04
