The MSU Center for Continuing Education and the Kemp Center for the Arts will begin the spring 2004 Foreign Film Series on Feb. 5 with an Irish film, "Angela's Ashes." Dr. Nathan Moran will make the presentation of the movie adapted from Frank McCourt's Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir. "Angela's Ashes" vividly captures the author's miserable childhood in Ireland during the 1930s. A Japanese film, "Rashomon," will be presented by Dr. Charles Olson on March 4. The story concerns four people involved in a rape-murder who tell varying accounts of what happened. The film won an Oscar for Best Foreign Film. The third presentation will be an Italian film, "Cinema Paradiso," on April 1. The presenter will be Greg Giddings. This film won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 1988. It's the story of a small boy in a small Italian town and his love for movies. The last film in the series, "In Praise of Love," is a French film presented by Richard Carter. This film was directed by Jean-Luc Godard in 1991. It explores love, memory, the French Resistance, and the buying and selling of history. Admission is free to all films. They are in English or sub-titled and will be shown at 1300 Lamar. For more information, call Continuing Education at 397-4756.
