In memory of Jan Thacker, Midwestern State University named the Fantasy of Lights storage building the Jan Thacker Fantasy of Lights Workshop in a ceremony held Friday, Dec. 5. Jan Thacker, along with her husband Bill, was involved with the display since it became part of the MSU holiday tradition in 1974. By working year-round on the project, she saw it grow to include 33 displays and more than 20,000 lights. She chaired the committee that oversees the Fantasy of Lights project and was personally involved in every aspect of its operation. Annual workdays were set up to involve the community. In addition, businesses were asked to adopt individual displays. Her tireless efforts have made the display a treasured tradition of the north Texas community.
