Midwestern State University's Mass Communications program took Sweepstakes honors at

Eighteen member schools from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Kansas with proven excellence in journalism education comprise the Congress, and membership is by invitation of member universities. Second place in sweepstakes was awarded to the University of Texas at Austin. "Competing against the largest schools in a four state area is affirmation that our program continues to produce quality students," said Carla Bennett, chair of the mass communication department. "Our faculty members work tirelessly to stay abreast of industry changes." First place honors went to the following students: John DeLuna, Lacey Romines, Stephen Smith, Fire Station #1, Best TV Program; Chance Baskerville, Eucelia Hill, Tara Henry, Eastside Story, Best TV Program; John DeLuna, Artist, Best Feature Story. Third place honors went to: John DeLuna, producer, Campus Watch; John DeLuna, Lacey Romines, Stephen Smith, Fire Station #1, Best Videography/Editing; John DeLuna, Fantasy of Lights, Best Feature Story. Honorable Mention honors were awarded to: Gloria Esdaille, Joe Russell, Making the Call, Best Videography/Editing; John DeLuna, Regents; Best Non-Feature Story. Member schools include: Baylor University, Texas Tech, University of Oklahoma, University of Texas at Austin, Texas Christian University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M at College Station and Commerce, Louisiana State University, Oklahoma State University, Abilene Christian University, Southwest Texas State University, University of Texas at Arlington, University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Lamar University.
