Midwestern State University has named Dr.Friederike Wiedemann as the new Vice Preside

She replaces Dr. Jesse W. Rogers who vacated the position when he was named president of the university in November. Dr. Wiedemann earned her bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees from Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universitõt in Frankfurt, Germany and FacultÚ des Lettres in Lyon, France. She received her doctorate from Northwestern University in Chicago. She has served as vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina since 1994 where she is tenured as a professor of language and literature. From 1989-1994 she was dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Southern Colorado and was also tenured as a professor of French. Prior to that she was associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Northeastern Illinois University. She has attended a seminar for U.S. Administrators in International Education as a Fulbright grantee, and she was selected for the Institute for Education Management at Harvard University. "We are extremely pleased to have Dr. Wiedemann," stated Dr. Rogers. She has a tremendous academic background and a great deal of experience in administration. We look forward to having her on campus." Dr. Wiedemann is a member of the American Association of University Administrators, American Association of Teachers of French and Modern Language Association. Locally, she chairs Rotary's District 7750 Subcommittee on Rotary Scholarships. She recently was awarded a Rotary District Governor's Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Rotary Service. She is a member of the Greenwood Area Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors and is a choir member at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
