When engaged, the boxes make immediate direct contact with the police department providing additional safety for MSU students and visitors. The process to obtain the call boxes began several years ago when Jacklyn Bunger Meng, then serving as president of SGA, suggested that students walking on campus needed a means to connect with the police on an immediate basis. "This is just one example of how Student Government works in cooperation with the university to meet the needs of our students. We want our students to feel safe whenever they're on campus, and these call boxes provide an element of security previously not available," current SGA President Michael Mills stated. Four of the boxes are vertical towers topped with flashing blue lights. They are located between Killingsworth and Pierce Halls, between Martin and Fowler Buildings, outside D.L. Ligon Coliseum and outside Moffett library. A fifth box is installed on the outside wall of the Sikes Lake Center. All five boxes are accessible 24 hours a day.
