The Midwestern State University Board of Regents met August 9, 2002.

The following are some of the items that received approval from the board. Approved changing Louis J. Rodriguez Drive into a boulevard, closing Tee Pee Drive between Comanche Trail and the south side of CSC, and developing a pedestrian way between Rodriguez Drive and Tee Pee Drive. Authorized the administration to complete all documents required to begin construction of a new student housing facility. Projected completion date is August 2003. Approved the renovation of Killingsworth and Pierce Halls to begin August 2003. Authorized the administration to submit a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree proposal to the Coordinating Board for approval. Approved changing the current title of "Continuing and Distributive Education" to "Extended Education." Approved the following individuals to be added to Legacy Walk: Dr. Travis White William (Bill) and Jan Thacker F.M. and Ivadona Farrier Approved the addition of a women's softball team to begin fall 2004 or earlier
