Mythbusters host Kari Byron next guest of Artist-Lecture Series

Kari Byron may be best known as a host on the Discovery Channel’s MythBusters TV program. She is also an accomplished artist with a passion for smart entertainment who speaks out on the importance of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) programming on television.

Byron will be the next guest of Midwestern State University’s Artist-Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, in Akin Auditorium.

After graduating from San Francisco State University and traveling the world, Byron began her career as a sculptor and painter, holding successful exhibitions at some of San Francisco's leading galleries. Her sculpting skills and love for odd jobs soon led her into the field of model-making and toy-prototyping, which led to a job with Jamie Hyneman at M5 Industries. It was at M5 that Byron got her big break with MythBusters. She was on the show from 2003-2018. She has gone on to host and produce other shows including Head Rush, Punkin Chunkin, and Netflix’ The White Rabbit Project.

Just as MythBusters used science, curiosity and ingenuity to examine popular myths and legends, Byron realized that using the scientific method of solving problems – question, hypothesize, experiment, analyze, and conclude – was also good for solving everyday problems in life. That is the premise of her first book, Crash Test Girl, An Unlikely Experiment in Using the Scientific Method to Answer Life’s Biggest Questions, which was published last year.

Admission is $20 for general public; $18 for senior citizens, active-duty military, and MSU alumni; free to MSU students, faculty, and staff with ID. Tickets are available at the Clark Student Center Information Desk. For tickets or more information, contact the Office of Student Affairs at 940-397-7500.
