Nursing Honor Society Welcomes Record Number of Nurses at MSU

Midwestern State University hosted an induction ceremony for 94 new members of Xi Iota Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), the nursing honor society, on April 11.

The society recognizes nursing students and leaders who demonstrate academic excellence and exceptional achievements in nursing. Membership is by invitation only.

Nancy Townley was the featured guest speaker at the ceremony. Townley received her Master of Nursing Education from MSU in 1999 and was named Distinguished Alumni from the College of Health Science and Human Services in 2005. She is the senior vice president of operations at United Regional in Wichita Falls.

Xi Iota offers nursing scholarships each spring, and this year scholarship recipients were Alexandria Garcia and Melat Ghirmai.

In recognition of National Nurses Week, the local chapter will also celebrate new nurse graduates from Vernon College and the MSU Wilson School of Nursing at 5 p.m. May 12 at the Wichita Falls Museum of Art at MSU.
