MSOC: Midwestern ranked No. 11 in NSCAA/adidas Preseason Poll

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State advanced to the NCAA Division II national playoffs for the third time in five seasons before bowing out to national runner-up Fort Lewis in a shootout in the tournament's second round.

The Mustangs, who closed the 2006 season ranked No. 10 with a 17-3-2 mark, will start the fall ranked No. 11 according to the National Soccer Coaches' Association/adidas preseason poll released Tuesday afternoon.

Defending national champion Lions of Dowling (N.Y.) College claimed the nation's top rank, while Fort Lewis begins the year at No. 2.

The Mustangs, who claimed a 3-1 win over the Skyhawks during the regular season a year ago, will battle Fort Lewis in Golden, Colo. on Oct. 5 this season.

Another Midwest Region foe, Incarnate Word, is ranked No. 21. MSU plays host to the Cardinals on Sep. 7 before making the return trip to San Antonio on Oct. 13.

Midwestern State kicks off its 2007 campaign Aug. 26 at St. Mary's before beginning a five-match homestand against Colorado State-Pueblo at 7 p.m. on Aug. 31.
