VB: Midwestern State earns GamePlan/AVCA Team Academic Award

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The American Volleyball Coaches announced its 2006-07 GamePlan/AVCA Academic Award Thursday and honored Midwestern State for the first time.

 

"I am very proud of the girls," MSU coach Venera Flores said. "This award exemplifies the hard work our student-athletes put in on and off the court."

 

The award honors collegiate and high school tteams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

 

The Mustangs, who achieved a 3.316 grade-point average, were the only member of the Lone Star Conference and were one of 30 NCAA Division II institutions honored by the AVCA.

 

"The AVCA is again privileged to present the GamePlan/AVCA Academic Award to these outstanding institutions," AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer said. "We congratulate the student-athletes for their hard work in the classroom and thank our coaches for instilling this dedication in the young women and men of our sport."

 

Midwestern State opens the 2007 campaign at the Comfort Inn-vitational in Pensacola, Fla. On Aug. 24-25.
