Buss to retire

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -  It's golf and fishing time for Midwestern State University Assistant Athletic Director Ted Buss.

As of May 31, Buss, assistant athletic director for marketing and promotions at MSU, will retire from the university after five years.

"I just want to slow down a bit," said Buss.  "It's hard to step away from a place you love."

Buss played baseball for Midwestern in 1962 before coming back to obtain his degree from the University in 1981.  He joined the MSU athletic staff in June of 2002.

A lifelong son of Wichita Falls, Buss has been the sports editor and business editor of the Wichita Falls Times Record News and general manager of KAUZ-TV among his many positions.

In his tenure at Midwestern, Buss grew corporate sponsorships from less than 20 to more than 100 as well as started the MSU Kids Zone.

"Ted has been a real asset to Midwestern State University and we will miss having him here every day," said MSU Athletic Director Ed Harris.  "We wish him well in retirement."

"We've done some great things at MSU and I want to thank everyone for their support of our program," Buss added.

He's been married to his wife Janus, the MSU director of public information and marketing, for 25 years.  The couple has four grown children and three grandchildren.

While Buss will retire from full-time duty, don't be surprised if he doesn't assist the athletic department on special projects in the future as well.
