Mustangs Split Doubleheader With Southwestern

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - - The Midwestern State softball team played their first games in ten days, splitting a doubleheader with Southwestern Oklahoma State.

             MSU (37-14, 16-6) lost the first game 4-2, with Kristen Stonecipher hitting her eighth homerun of the season, a two run shot in the sixth inning. Pitcher Katie Petersen had a solid game despite the loss as she went six innings giving up six hits and striking out seven batters while allowing three earned runs.

            The Mustangs bounced back to win the second game 5-0. Playing well at the plate for MSU was Stonecipher and Jessica Rodriguez, who both went 2-4 with one RBI. Pitcher Katie Petersen took the mound again, allowing just eight hits and striking out three, in the complete game shutout. She improved her record to 21-11 for the season.

            Midwestern will finish the regular season on Saturday, when they host SWOSU for the first ever games at Mustangs Park. The two teams will play a doubleheader, with opening ceremonies for the new field set to start at 2:45 p.m., and game one to start at 3:00 p.m.
