Mustangs Add Three More Players

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - - The Midwestern State Women's Basketball Team picked up three more key players for the upcoming 2007-2008 basketball season, adding 5-7 point guard Demesha Heard, 5-10 Forward Lameka Oakes, both of Redlands Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma, and 5-10 Guard Kayla Emmons of Grandview High School in Grandview, Texas.

"Demesha is an outstanding point guard that delivers the ball really well, can get to the basket and score, and also is a great Defender" says Mustangs head coach Shannon Burks. "Lameka is a very talented power forward that can score from anywhere. In Kayla we get a versatile and very fundamentally sound player whose size and strength will help her adapt quickly to the college game. We are very fortunate to have signed these three players and are excited to have them in our program."

Heard, originally from Oklahoma City, John Marshall High School, averaged 10 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.9 steals, and 3.1 assists a game, while earning First Team All Region.

Oakes, also originally from Oklahoma City John Marshall, averaged 14.5 points and 4.2 rebounds a game, while shooting 35 percent from behind the three point line. She earned First Team All-Region and was named Second Team NJCAA All-American.

Emmons averaged 18.6 points, eight rebounds, 2.6 steals, and 1.3 blocks a game, while earning Offensive player of the Year for District 11-2A.

With the signing of these three players, that gives the Mustangs a total of five players signed this spring.
