MSU Tennis sweeps Montana State-Billings

            ARLINGTON, Texas - The Midwestern State University men's and women's tennis teams had little trouble in defeating Montana State University-Billings by identical scores of 9-0 Wednesday morning.

            The 29th ranked MSU men (9-9) were paced by the All-American duo of Brett Emerson and Zac Dillard.  At number one doubles, the 22nd ranked doubles pair defeated Tytus Stempeniwicz and Gabriel Diaz 8-4, each then easily won singles matches.  Emerson, ranked 17th, downed Stempeniwicz 6-0, 6-0 at number one, while Dillard ripped Diaz at number three 6-1, 6-0.

            Charles van Swelm and Fernando Villarreal edged Phillipe Andermatt and Paco Sanchez 9-7 at number two doubles, while John Suard and Travis Stegner ripped Chad Holgard and Jarrett Rummel 8-2 at number three doubles.

            In other singles, van Swelm beat Andermatt 6-3, 6-2 at number two, Villarreal downed Sanchez 6-2, 6-1 at number four, Stegner beat Rummel 6-1, 6-1 at number five and Neal Tjon-A-Joe beat Holgard 6-4, 6-2.

            The 26th ranked MSU women (17-8) were paced by Cilia Muller and Ann-Sophie Indeherberge at number one doubles.  The pair downed Heidi Lehman and Brianne Roney 8-1 in leading the charge.  Muller, playing number one singles, then beat Lehman 7-5, 6-2 and Indeherberge ripped Roney 6-1, 6-0 at number two.

            The number two doubles squad of Brynne Chappell and Collean Kinser beat Victoria Fernandez and Marta Borges 8-2, with Faye d'Hamecourt and Michelle Watson beating Molly McAlpine and Jenna Baltrusch 8-2 at number three.

            The other singles matches saw d'Hamecourt beat Borges at number three 6-2, 6-1, Kinser over Fernandez 6-1, 6-1 at number four, Melissa dos Prazeres-Silva shutting out McAlpine 6-0, 6-0 at number five and Watson beating Stacey Dix 6-0, 6-1 at number six.

            The match was a final tuneup for the Lone Star Conference Championships for the two teams.

            The MSU women, seeded fourth, open first round play in the tournament Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center against fifth-seeded Tarleton State.  The winner will advance to the semifinals at 2 p.m. Thursday against the winner of the match between Abilene Christian and Central Oklahoma.

            The MSU men, seeded third, face second-seeded Cameron in the semifinals Friday at 1 p.m.

            The championship matches are scheduled for Friday at 9 a.m. for both men and women.
