Mustangs place fifth at UCO/KickingBird Classic

EDMOND, Okla. - The Midwestern State University Mustangs held position through the final round of the UCO/KickingBird Classic, posting a team total of 851 to place fifth in the tournament at the KickingBird Golf Club.

MSU's Brady Jones, who shared the lead after two rounds at five-under, toured the course at one-over 71 to place fourth individually at four-under par 206.The Gilmer junior was five shots off the pace of individual champion Blake Slaughter of St. Edward's.UCO's Mitch Boles was second at 204, while St. Mary's Jamie Amoretti third at 205.

Throckmorton freshman Logan Scarlett toured the course at even-par 70 to finish at three-over 213, to tie for 16th individually, while Hunter Linscombe, a junior from Katy, posted a two-over 72 to finish at five-over 215 to tie at 24th.

MSU got a boost from Houston/North Shore junior Gordon Quebodeaux, who posted the Mustangs best round of the day, firing a three-under 67 to finish at seven-over 217.Jacksboro freshman Eric Thompson added a 76 to finish at 231.

St. Edward's claimed the team competition at 836, a stroke better than host Central Oklahoma at 837 and three better than third place Abilene Christian at 839. St. Mary's was fourth at 843.

The MSU linksters are in action again next Monday and Tuesday at the West Texas A&M/Subway Invitational at the LaPaloma Country Club in Amarillo.
