Mustangs remain fourth in regional rankings

- The Midwestern State University Mustangs stayed fourth in the latest NCAA Division II South Central Region Men's Basketball rankings released Wednesday afternoon.

The rankings are based on play through Sunday.

Southeastern
Oklahoma
State
, after losing to regionally ranked
Central Oklahoma
last Wednesday, fell from the top spot into third.

Central Missouri, with a Division II overall record of 19-3, moved back to number one, with Northwest Missouri State second. NWMSU has a DII only record of 19-4.

Southeastern, with a DII record of 19-3 is third followed by

with an 18-6 Division II overall mark.

West Texas A&M, who defeated

Tarleton
State
last week before losing to MSU, moved up to fifth from seventh with a 15-9 DII record, while
Emporia
State

Kan.
) remained sixth with a 16-6 DII only mark.

fell to seventh with a 14-9 DII record with
Central Oklahoma
up to eighth with a 14-7 record in Division II.

Texas A&M-Kingsville (15-8 in DII) dropped to ninth with

This is the last full set of weekly rankings by the Division II Basketball Committee. The committee will issue the invitations to the NCAA Division II Tournament on Sunday. Eight teams will be selected to the tournament from the South Central region, with automatic bids issued to the tournament champions of the Lone Star Conference, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and the Heartland Conference. Then, five at-large bids are issued.

The championship selection show will be streamed on the internet at www.ncaasports.com/dii, beginning at 9:30 p.m.

MSU hosts the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Friday and Saturday, with the Mustangs playing

Central Oklahoma
in the 8 p.m. semifinal.
Southeastern Oklahoma
and West Texas A&M meet at 6 p.m. on Friday. The winners play for the LSC Championship on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Ligon Coliseum.
