- The Midwestern State University Mustangs grabbed their fifth straight victory with a 94-84 triumph over the Cameron University Aggies in non-conference action Tuesday night at
Gerald Stockton Court
in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The win for MSU (8-3) avenges a two-point loss earlier in the season to Cameron (9-3).

The Mustangs never trailed in the second half, thanks to the scoring of senior Drew Coffman, who collected 15 of his career-high 27 points in the second half. Coffman just missed another double-double, with eight rebounds and seven assists.

The Mustangs inside tandem of senior Eric Dawson and junior Christopher Reay posted a pair of double-doubles.

Dawson
chalked up his seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 boards. Reay got his second double-double with a season-high 15 points and 10 rebounds to go with four blocked shots.

Junior Chris Davis added 14 points and seven rebounds for MSU.

Cameron was paced by Matthew Reid with 22 points, while Joseph Bolden added 16 points with seven boards, while Marlon Bernard posted 14 points with seven rebounds and four blocks.

The teams battled to a 23-all tie with five minutes to go when the Mustangs broke lose with a 10-2 run, started by a three-pointer by Coffman.

The run put MSU up eight with 2:23 to play in the opening frame, then rolled out to a 39-30 lead at intermission.

MSU edged out to a 13-point advantage twice in the second half, only to see the Aggies battle back to a cut a double-digit lead three times to pull within six.

Cameron got to within six the last time with 1:51 to play, when a Coffman jumper made it an eight-point game again.

MSU maintained it's lead by hitting all six free throws in the final minute and

ended the contest with a dunk with five seconds remaining.

The Mustangs pick up their fifth straight win, their first such streak since winning the first five games of the 2003-04 season when head coach Jeff Ray returned to the bench for his second tenure at the MSU helm.

MSU continues at home in Ligon Coliseum on Saturday when Texas A&M-Commerce visits for a Lone Star Conference divisional crossover game, the third contest of a four-game home stand for the Mustangs. Tipoff is about 8 p.m. following the women's game that starts at 6 p.m.
