WICHITA FALLS, Texas - - Senior defenseman Daniel Woolard has been selected by the Chicago Fire with the 47th pick in the Major League Soccer 2007 Supplemental Draft.

ááááááááááááááá Woolard, who ranks second in career starts at MSU with 80, was the top defensive player in the Southwest Soccer Conference this year. He earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas First Team All-American honors, as well as First Team All-SSC, and First Team All-Midwest Region by both Daktronics and the NSCAA. He scored one goal on the season and helped the MSU defense shutout 11 opponents.

ááááááááááááááá This is just the second time that an MSU soccer player has been drafted to the MLS. In 1997, the Kansas City Wizards selected mid-fielder Jake Joy with 27th pick of the MLS College Draft. Woolard is the first defensive player selected in school history, and the first player drafted under Current Midwestern coach Doug Elder.
